Carol LAI Miu-suet
黎 妙雪
Born in 1966, Carol Lai will study marketing at the Hong-Kong University but she will be a school teacher (an experience which will inspire her for the script of Glass Tears) and later, working for the cinema and the television by learning on the job. She directed her first short film in 1998: Father’s Toy. Carol Lai is a movie lover and a big admirer of directors like Cassavetes, Wong Kar-Waï or Tarkovski: maybe this is why her first movie (Glass Tears) has an unique style and kept the attention of the programmers of the Cannes festival by its qualities. One year later, Carol Lai kept on working and she started the production of Floating Landscape for which she received the financial support of many countries. As an highly ambitious movie, Floating Landscape is now in competition at the Venice festival and it’s obvious that Carol Lai is a director who will go far, very far to obtain the international breakthrough she deserves.Alain
