The Water Margin is universally regarded as one of the greatest classics of chinese litterature. Written in the 14th century, the sprawling tale is based on actual events that took place during the tumultuous reign of the 12th century Song dynasty emperor Hui Zhong, who ruled from 1101 to 1125.
The novel's numerous plots and subplots tell of the daring exploits of 108 men and women who gathered in northern China's Liangshan mountain to fight for justice against the corruption and decadence of the imperial court.
The adventures of these 108 heroes have fueled Chinese folklore and legend for over a half-millenium, and the martial arts techniques detailed in the novel are still practiced to this day. The following movie is based on chapters 64-68 of this classic tale.
