Rose Ling (Chen Pei-hsi) and Fang Su-mei (Tai Liang-chun) are close classmates with contrasting characters. Rose was raised by her taxi dancer sister (Pei Ju-hua), while Fang came from a well-to-do family.
After graduation, Su-mei goes to study in the United States. Rose works in a joint, and meets a young man Chen Chia-chin (Liu Shao-chun). They plan to get married, but as Chen backs out at the last minute, they quarrel and struggle in a car, which leads to a crash, killing Chen and severely injuring Rose.
Su-mei returns from the USA with her fiance Dr. Liu (Liu Yung), and together they go visit her.
After being discharged from hospital, Rose becomes a model. Then through the help of socialite Mrs. Lin (Linda Chu), she wins a beauty pageant, and later becomes a rich, old merchant’s mistress.
Dr. Liu and Su-mei are married, but a secret romance develops between Liu and Rose. Subsequently, Rose’s background is exposed, she loses her beauty title then becomes addicted to drugs and sinks very low. Seeing her close friend in such a plight, Su-mei decides to return to the USA with her husband. On the eve of their departure, an unexpected tragedy occurs.
