Delhi today, a city where noise is inescapable, whether on the streets or at home. Sarit, a thirty year old man, feels besieged. Searching for silence, he escapes to his village in Bengal. Peace descends on him; his friends in the village are sympathetic, and he even finds a new love. In fact, it is as if he is living out the romantic poem; which talks of ‘yellow green afternoon” when the village is filled with “the smell of crushed lime leaves, of raw mangoes roasted…” and one can see “the ripples when the fist leap”. But his obsession with silence shatters this fragile peace and all he can do is escape, right back to where he began, Delhi.
